Android Users: You Can Now Send And Receive SMS Via Facebook Messenger

Yesterday, Facebook announced that the Messenger for Android now allows users to send and receive SMS messages which simply means that you can now communicate with your family, friends and phone contacts by sending and receiving SMS via Faccebook Messenger. With this new feature, you wouldn't have to leave your Messenger apps before you can send and receive messages.

Sending SMS in Messenger supports images, standard text, videos, and audio, but if you are sending rich content like stickers, emoji s, and location sharing then you'll have to use regular Messenger to send GIFs, send money, make voice & video calls, and request transportation.
To enable this new feature "send and receive” SMS/texts" You'll need to follow the below steps

  • Open Messenger and tap on Settings (the person icon)
  •  Select “SMS” from the list
  • Turn on “Default SMS app"

Having enabling this new feature, you can view and respond to your SMS conversations in Messenger. Your Messenger conversations will be in blue and  SMS conversations will be in purple.

Note that this new feature is available only on Android. However, when you send an SMS message, the recipient can be on any platform.
